We recently completed a group project in which we made stop-motion animations of mitosis. The groups chose their materials, made the cell, and then took photographs as they slowly moved the cell through the process of mitosis. The groups then edited their photos into stop-motion movies, which you can watch below!
When the girls watched all of the movies, they wrote film critiques and voted in the "Mitosis Movie Academy Awards." I have indicated the "winners" below, with excerpts from the girls' critiques.
Enjoy watching all of these mitosis movies! The girls worked hard and it shows!
Abby, Christine, & Lucy's video was a top vote-getter in the "Creativity & Execution" category.
"The visual effect was cool and creative"
"It was courageous to invert the colors and use household objects"
"I like how it zoomed in on the face to show where the cell was and I liked the visual effect"
Cleo, Ibby, Jasmin, & Lulu's video was a top vote-getter in the "Creativity & Execution" category.
"They used candy in a way that was still scientifically accurate"
"I liked how the cytoplasm was filled with jelly beans"
"They used candy even for the cytoplasm, which is hard"

"They included every single step, including the chromosomes condensing"
"Their spindle fibers looked super cool"
"They used very accurate movements with their spindle fibers"

"It was a plant cell and it was easy to tell what was happening"
"It was very accurate and moved very smoothly"
"I think all of the process steps were accurate. I also liked how the process happens on top of the organelles to show the dimensions"
Anelise, Izzy, & Reese's video was a top vote-getter in the "Scientific Accuracy" category.
"It was clear and was a good speed"
"Each organelle was in the accurate area and the video played smoothly"
